Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for Instructor(s) in the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) program as outlined below (subject to minimum student enrolment) Some evening/weekend work may be necessary. Salary will be in accordance with the CUPE Instructional Scale, ranging between $5,775.83 and $9,255.50 per section.

Duties:  The instructors are responsible for contributing to the academic success of students in the ECCE program. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction.

For courses delivered online, the instructor(s) must be located at one of our campuses located in Smithers, Terrace, or Prince Rupert):

Fall Semester (September – December 2026)

  • ECCE 220: Modes of Care for Infants and Toddlers (1 section) - delivered online
  • ECCE 104: Health, Safety, and Nutrition (1 section) - delivered at the Smithers campus
  • ECCE 167: Guiding Young Children (1 section) - delivered at the Prince Rupert campus

Winter Semester (January – April 2027):

  • ECCE 208: Essential Skills for ECE Administrators (1 section) - delivered online
  • ECCE 167: Guiding Young Children (1 section) - delivered at the Smithers campus
  • ECCE 104: Health, Safety, and Nutrition (1 section) - delivered at the Prince Rupert campus

Intersession (May - August 2027): (all intersession courses delivered online)

  • ECCE 240: Inclusion in Early Childhood Settings (1 section)
  • ECCE 241: Supporting Children with Exceptionalities (1 section)
  • ECCE 242: Field Placement V (1 section)

Qualifications

A minimum of both a Bachelor and Master’s degree in the field of Early Childhood Education or a related discipline along with early learning experience and teaching experience at the post-secondary level in the area of early learning. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required skills include:

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to inspire and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain students in a post-secondary setting is an asset
