Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a full-time continuing Junior Human Resources Advisor position. The salary for this position is $84,208 annually plus a comprehensive benefits plan.

Duties: The Junior HR Advisor will provide foundational HR support across the full employee lifecycle, enabling the HR team to deliver efficient, timely and high-quality services. This role is responsible for conducting preliminary work, coordinating HR processes, and supporting employee and manager enquiries, while developing broad generalist HR capability.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to routine HR-related inquiries from employees and managers
  • Interpret and apply collective agreement provisions in day-to-day HR matters
  • Conduct preliminary fact-finding and documentation for employee and labour relations issues
  • Support grievance administration, including tracking, correspondence, and documentation
  • Liaise with union representatives on routine matters and escalate complex issues as required
  • Assist hiring managers throughout recruitment and onboarding processes
  • Draft routine HR correspondence, reports, and documentation
  • Support job description development and job evaluation processes
  • Research collective agreements, legislation, and policies to inform HR practices
  • Participate in HR projects, initiatives, and team activities
  • Maintain accurate HR records, tracking systems, and reporting
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable relevant legislation, regulations, policies and HR best practices, such as but not limited to:
    • BC Labour Relations Code
    • Employment Standards Act
    • Human Rights Code
    • Labour Relations Code
    • Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
    • Workers Compensation Act
    • Applicable collective agreements (BCGEU-Support Staff, BCGEU-Vocational Instructors, CUPE/FPSE)
  • Provide backup support within the HR team as needed
  • Travel occasionally to regional campuses or locations, and community events

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills:

  • A diploma in Human Resources/ Business or another related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Human Resources or HR administration
  • Experience in a unionized and/or public sector environment is an asset
  • Working toward a CPHR designation is considered an asset
  • Foundational understanding of employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Code, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act
  • Training and/or experience supporting workplace investigations is an asset;
  • Training and/or experience in conflict resolution is considered an asset;
  • Experience working with HR systems and data;
  • Experience interpreting and applying governing rules, such as but not limited to collective agreements, policies and/or regulations;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to gather and summarize information;
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills;
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and exercise discretion.;
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues and clients, including responsiveness and tact;
  • Ability to remain calm and flexible;
  • Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, excellence and thoroughness with a client and business focus.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record, to travel between campuses using the fleet vehicles.
