Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join as the Director, Facilities & Security Services. The salary for this position is $158,949 annually plus a comprehensive benefits plan.

This position takes a lead role in expressing the values and mission of the College throughout the northwest region. The Director is the lead administrator in the planning and execution of all aspects of facilities maintenance at the college as well as ensuring the safety and comfort of residents at the Terrace campus.

Duties: Reporting to the VP Corporate Services, the Director has responsibilities to provide operational leadership and strategic direction in the following areas:

  1. Facilities & Maintenance Services – Effective planning, construction, and management of college land, buildings, and related equipment at all CMTN campuses.  The various duties include overseeing the operations of the maintenance and grounds departments, janitorial contracts, the preparation and management of annual operating budgets, capital budgets, and financial control.  The Director participates in policy development and implementation, strategic and operational planning, preventive maintenance program development and implementation and budget development.
  2. Security – Responsible for the development, implementation, and management of college safety and security programs, ensures compliance with all applicable municipal, provincial and federal laws, rules, and regulations related to campus safety and ensuring that day-to-day security, public safety functions, and new initiatives are aligned with the College’s Strategic Plan.

Qualifications

A degree and certificate related to facilities operation, planning, and maintenance, along with 5 years of related experience; working knowledge of all building maintenance trades and professions; and knowledge of the BC Building code, WSBC regulations, Fire Code of Canada, and Federal, Provincial, and Municipal legislation related to facilities construction, operation, and maintenance. 5th Class Boiler Operation Certificate and Provincial TQ in Millwright or Electrical are preferred. A master’s degree in a related field or a commitment to pursuing a master’s degree is also preferred.

  • Experience leading and supervising employees including recruitment, training and performance management
  • A proven track record in customer service and client satisfaction
  • Demonstrated experience in business planning
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of current industry trends, production, inventory and business operations
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with the ability to function with a high degree of tact and diplomacy
  • Strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated through the establishment of effective working relationships with employees, colleagues, students, external agencies and the general public
  • Ability to manage budgets and optimize cost-effectiveness in resource allocation and expenditures
  • Effective problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to use standard PC productivity applications such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at an intermediate level
  • Knowledge of programs, practices and processes associated with security, fire safety and emergency preparedness, particularly in the areas of PDBA, BCEMS, CPTED, risk / threat assessment, and Target Hardening is an asset.
