Educational Advisor - Adult Upgrading (Terrace)

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a full-time term (35 hours per week) Educational Advisor. The appointment will commence April 1, 2025 and end September 12, 2025. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff, Level 12: $37.80 per hour.

Duties:  This position is responsible to assist students interested in Adulting Upgrading with CMTN services, policies, procedures, facilities, Adult Upgrading programs and courses, prerequisites and financial aid and to assist students to develop educational plans and recommend options for educational and career opportunities.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting students and prospective students in exploring Adult Upgrading programs appropriate to their educational and career goals and initiating retention strategies to support students’ ability to continue working towards their educational goals
  • Providing information regarding CMTN’s Adult Upgrading programs and services to students/prospective students, parents, and community groups
  • Providing information and assisting students/prospective students to access sources of financial aid
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts for student recruitment and promotion of Adult Upgrading courses and programs
  • Other related duties (of similar scope and complexity) as required

Qualifications

A university degree along with 2 years of experience advising students with respect to education and career goals in a post-secondary setting and practical understanding of the workings of educational systems. An equivalent combination of skills and experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated ability to speak effectively to groups
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team toward the overall assistance and recruitment of students in a cross-cultural setting
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to determine priorities and be self-directed
  • Work efficiently under pressure of deadlines despite interruptions
  • Experience in conflict resolution and dealing with challenging situations
